Concept and development of multifunctional panel for compartmentalisation systems and equipment encapsulation, with the incorporation of an innovative acoustic and thermal insulation core
Excessive exposure to noise is now recognized by international organizations as a risk to the physical and mental health of a significant part of the population, and deeply undermines the levels of comfort, well-being and work performance within buildings. The expectations of building users have also been increasing in recent decades, and therefore more stringent legal requirements have been implemented. In parallel, the energy efficiency issues of buildings and products now have an important role in political agendas, and are a key aspect in scientific research and development. Along with these concerns, our society is increasingly committed to promoting sustainable practices, with the implementation of a low-carbon economy, a more efficient use of natural resources, and the demand for more durable and safer solutions.
The panel solutions currently available in the market have evolved, but the conventional development paradigms are close to their limits. It is thus fundamental to rethink / reinvent existing solutions, developing new concepts, which must be innovative, distinctive and even disruptive, but also representing a contribution to sustainable practices in construction. This project is focused on the development of multifunctional sustainable panels using the latest technologies, and proposing value-added solutions to the market.
New concepts of construction panels will be developed, incorporating innovative core solutions for acoustic and thermal insulation, in national and international terms, for application in separating systems or in equipment encapsulation. The development intends to maximize the performance of the products, without compromising its operability with higher weights, and being flexible to be incorporated into different types of final solutions, such as doors, panels, separating walls or encapsulations. The new systems will be validated in the laboratory, giving it a high commercial value and, cumulatively, high exportation potential.
